Pune: Baner Police Station Initiates Dialogue with Residents on Public Safety
Baner, 29th October 2024: Baner police station, under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi, organised a meeting with local residents on October 26 to discuss safety precautions in Balewadi, Pashan, Sutarwadi, and the Baner area.
During this meeting, the following requests and suggestions for improving safety were provided by citizens:
1. Establish a 24/7 helpline with numbers 112 and 100 for immediate assistance.
2. Create a Pune City Police WhatsApp group for community updates.
3. Provide the Baner Police Station number specifically for senior citizens and outline measures for their safety.
4. Implement a system for collecting information and assisting senior citizens living alone.
5. Share information about cybercrime and fraud prevention.
6. Indicate the location of the Baner Police Station.
7. Install notice boards along ten to twelve routes leading to Baner Hill, displaying essential services, Baner Police Station contact numbers, Pune City Police Commissionerate information, and WhatsApp group numbers.
8. Establish a Police Help Center in the Baner area.
9. Install CCTV cameras on all hills in Pune city for surveillance.
10. Set up PA systems on the hills for announcements.
11. Install AKSA lights for improved visibility.
12. Increase police patrols and utilize police scanners for enhanced security.

Approximately 200 to 300 citizens attended the meeting and provided valuable input. The community responded positively, indicating they would inform others not to visit Baner Hill between 6:00 PM and 5:00 AM. Additionally, it was suggested that the “People Awareness” program, which facilitates interaction between the police and the public, should be conducted regularly.
