Pune, November 28, 2024: In a bid to combat rising pollution levels, the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) is intensifying its efforts to ensure that all vehicles on the road adhere to pollution control standards. One of the key measures to curb vehicle emissions is the mandatory Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate. However, many drivers continue to neglect this requirement, contributing to increased pollution levels. As a result, the Pune RTO has ramped up enforcement actions against vehicles lacking the necessary PUC certification.

Over the past nine months, the RTO has inspected 14,000 vehicles, issuing penalties to 4,500 drivers for failing to present a valid PUC certificate. A total fine of ₹65 lakh has been collected as part of these efforts. With the onset of fog, which exacerbates air quality issues, the RTO has announced plans to further intensify inspections and actions against vehicles without PUC certificates to mitigate the pollution crisis.

Last month, the RTO’s Vayuveg Inspection Team conducted checks on 5,323 vehicles, discovering that 1,465 drivers were found without the required PUC certificate. Punitive measures were taken against these drivers, resulting in a fine of ₹19 lakh. In light of these findings, the RTO has urged all vehicle owners to get their vehicles tested immediately and ensure compliance with pollution control regulations.
