Pune: Two Leopards Captured in Junnar Taluka, Sent to Manikdoh Rescue Centre
Junnar, 26th December 2024: In Junnar Taluka of Pune District, two leopards have been captured. They were caught in cages installed on farms in Pimpalwadi and Pimpri Pendhar. Junnar Taluka is known to be a leopard-prone area, with many leopards straying from the forests into human settlements. These sightings have occasionally led to fatal incidents involving people of all age groups.
In Pimpalwadi, a leopard was spotted near a Pune Zilla Parishad primary school, posing a significant threat to the local community. The Maharashtra Forest Department was alerted, and a cage with bait was set up. The leopard was successfully captured yesterday.
Meanwhile, in Pimpri Pendhar, a leopard was rescued from a well three days ago after accidentally falling into it. Despite this rescue, locals reported sightings of another leopard roaming freely in the area. Yesterday, this leopard was also captured using a cage and bait.
Both leopards have been sent to the Manikdoh Leopard Rescue Centre for further care and observation.
