Pune: Action Against Hookah Bar in Lulla Nagar Unveils Policeman’s Monthly Bribe; Beat Marshal Suspended

Lulla Nagar, 31st December 2024: A policeman from Pune Police has been suspended for allegedly accepting ‘protection money’ from various restaurants, allowing them to continue selling hookah. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5), Dr Rajkumar Shinde, issued orders to suspend the beat marshal, Harishchandra Rajaram Pawar, who is attached to Wanowrie Police Station.

An action was taken against Vegeta – Fine Dine & Lounge in the Lulla Nagar area under the guidance of Police Sub-Inspector Dhanaji Tone, during which hookah pots were seized. A case was registered against hotel owner Rahul Surekha Jain Singhal. On 26th December, when the action was carried out, beat marshal Pawar reportedly contacted Jain Singhal.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Jain Singhal had been paying Rs 6,000 monthly as ‘protection money’ to avoid police action. Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Patange submitted a report to DCP Zone 5, leading to Dr Rajkumar Shinde’s order to suspend beat marshal Pawar.
