Pune, 2nd January 2025: Commuters in Pimpri-Chinchwad and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) areas can look forward to improved bus services as Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) plans to establish three new bus depots to enhance connectivity and reduce the pressure on existing facilities.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority recently handed over three parcels of land, spanning a total of 5.5 acres, to PMPML. These plots, located in Bhosari, Ravet, and Moshi, are expected to significantly bolster the transport utility’s operations.

A senior PMPML official explained the importance of the new depots: “We have been requesting these plots for a considerable time, and the process gained momentum over the past three years. Since the land was under PMRDA’s jurisdiction, the handover was relatively smooth.”

The official further emphasized the growing challenges faced by the existing depots: “The depots in Bhosari and Nigdi have been struggling to handle the increased passenger load and bus trips. With the addition of the new depots, we will be able to deploy more buses and improve connectivity, particularly along the Pune-Mumbai and Pune-Nashik highways.”

Currently, PMPML buses operate up to Rajgurunagar on the Pune-Nashik highway and extend their services to Lonavala on the Pune-Mumbai highway. The new depots are expected to facilitate better access to these routes and cater to villages within PMRDA’s jurisdiction, ensuring seamless transportation for residents.
