Murud (Raigad), 2nd January 2025: A 31-year-old Pune resident, Pratik Sahasrabuddhe, drowned at Kashid Beach on Tuesday in what marks the second such incident in the area within a week.

Sahasrabuddhe had visited the popular beach with three friends to celebrate the year-end. According to eyewitnesses, he entered the water for a swim while the crowded beach kept his companions unaware of the unfolding tragedy. His lifeless body was later spotted floating in the sea, prompting immediate action by lifeguards.

Despite efforts to save him, Sahasrabuddhe was declared dead upon arrival at Murud Rural Hospital, where an inquest was conducted. An accidental death case has been registered, and the body was handed over to the family.

This drowning follows another similar incident last Friday, when Dharmendra Deshmukh, a 56-year-old headmaster from Pune’s Mahatma Jyotirao Phule High School, lost his life during a school picnic at the same beach. Deshmukh had been part of an 11-member group, including students and teachers, when the accident occurred.

The rising frequency of such incidents at Kashid Beach has raised alarms about safety measures and visitor awareness. Authorities have urged beachgoers to remain vigilant and adhere to safety guidelines while enjoying the seaside.
