Pune, 11th January 2025: The Bhumkar Chowk Underpass area (Narhe), now under Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) jurisdiction following recent boundary expansions, has seen rapid growth in residential projects, including housing complexes and societies. The locality also features a thriving industrial zone, leading to frequent heavy vehicle traffic, particularly between Bhumkar Chowk and Control Chowk.

The presence of schools, colleges, and hospitals along this route has exacerbated traffic congestion during peak hours. The situation is further worsened by the narrow roads, often causing significant traffic snarls due to heavy vehicle movement. Local residents have voiced concerns about these disruptions through complaints and media reports.

In response, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Pune City, Amol Zhende, has implemented new traffic regulations.

Key Directives:

Restricted Zone: The stretch from Bhumkar Chowk Underpass to Shri Control Chowk, including adjoining internal roads.
Prohibited Vehicles: Heavy, slow-moving, and oversized vehicles, with exceptions for emergency services like fire brigades, police, and ambulances.
Timing Restrictions: Heavy vehicle movement is banned from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Parking Ban: Parking of heavy vehicles during restricted hours is strictly prohibited.
These measures are aimed at alleviating congestion, improving traffic flow, and ensuring the safety of residents and commuters in the area.
