Pimpri-Chinchwad, 28th January 2025: Pimpri-Chinchwad police have uncovered a dangerous illegal gas refilling operation in the city, leading to the arrest of five individuals. The racket, which posed significant risks to both the operators and nearby residents, was exposed due to the vigilance of local law enforcement. In the operation, the police seized assets worth Rs 8.32 lakh, including 126 gas cylinders and two tempos. The illegal refilling was taking place in a residential area, raising serious safety concerns among the local population.

This operation follows similar incidents in the region, highlighting an ongoing issue that authorities are struggling to contain. On 19th May 2024, a severe explosion occurred during a gas theft attempt in Shel Pimpalgaon, resulting in two vehicles being destroyed. In another incident on 8th October 2023, a fire broke out in the Tathawade area while stealing gas from a tanker, causing nine cylinder explosions and damaging two school buses.

The practice of refilling domestic cylinders for commercial use or vehicles continues despite previous crackdowns. These operations often lack proper safety measures, increasing the risk of accidents. The proximity to residential areas, schools, and colleges puts many lives at risk, a fact that has not gone unnoticed by concerned citizens.

The crime branch conducted the raid, filing charges against the five individuals involved in the illegal operation. Residents have expressed relief at the police action but remain concerned about the recurring nature of these illegal activities. Authorities stress the need for continued vigilance and stricter enforcement to prevent such dangerous operations in residential areas.
