India’s First Artificial Intelligence (AI) University to Be Established in Maharashtra: Chandrakant Patil

Mumbai, 28th January 2025: Education and technology play a crucial role in achieving the goals of the Developed India 2047 Mission and India’s journey towards a $5 trillion economy. Against this backdrop, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) University will soon be established in Maharashtra. Instructions for forming a committee in this regard have been given by Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil.

A meeting was held at the Mantralaya in the presence of Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil and Information and Technology Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar. The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary of the Higher and Technical Education Department B. Venugopal Reddy, Principal Secretary of IT Parag Jain-Nainutia, Deputy Secretary Ashok Mande, Director of Technical Education Dr. Vinod Mohitkar, and Director of the State Technical Education Board Dr. Pramod Naik.

Minister Chandrakant Patil stated that instructions have been given to form a committee for the establishment of the AI University. The university will provide students and youth with modern knowledge of information technology and prepare them for global competition through advanced research and technology.

Adv. Ashish Shelar, Minister of Information and Technology, added that artificial intelligence is a critical technology for the future. Mastery in AI or related fields can create significant and lucrative employment opportunities. In this context, the establishment of the country’s first AI University will be a pioneering step.

A special task force has been created for this purpose. It includes Additional Chief Secretary of the Higher and Technical Education Department B. Venugopal Reddy, Principal Secretary of IT Parag Jain-Nainutia, Director of Technical Education Dr. Vinod Mohitkar, Director of Higher Education Shailendra Devlankar, Director of the State Technical Education Board Dr. Pramod Naik, and Paresh Page.
