Pune, 3rd February 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has set an ambitious target to construct more than 4,000 homes under the second phase of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). These affordable housing units will be built across various areas of the city, including Balewadi, Mundhwa, Dhanori, and Wadgaon Khurd, primarily benefiting economically weaker sections.

The PMC plans to build 4,176 housing units in this phase, with construction sites spread across Balewadi, Dhanori, Kondhwa, Hadapsar, and Vadgaon Khurd. This project aims to provide affordable housing to families with annual incomes below 6 lakhs, addressing the housing needs of low-income residents in Pune.

In the first phase of PMAY, the PMC had already constructed 2,658 homes across four housing projects in Hadapsar, Kharadi, and Wadgaon. The new homes in the second phase will range from 30 to 45 square meters in size, catering to different family requirements.

PMC Chief Engineer Prashant Waghmare stated that 852 applications have already been received for the PMAY scheme, indicating strong demand for affordable housing in the city. Municipal Commissioner Dr Rajendra Bhosale emphasized that the project will benefit economically weaker families and includes various housing models such as individual houses, partnership-based affordable homes, rental affordable homes, and an interest subsidy scheme.

To be eligible for PMAY, applicants must have an annual family income not exceeding 6 lakhs for the economically weaker section and must register on the Unified Web Portal. The central government provides a subsidy of 1.5 lakh rupees, while the state government offers an additional 2 lakh rupees to eligible beneficiaries.

This large-scale housing project demonstrates PMC’s commitment to addressing the housing needs of low-income residents in Pune, aligning with the central government’s vision of “Housing for All” and potentially improving the living conditions of thousands of families in the city.
