Pune police files FIR against Jignesh Mewani, Umar Khalid
Pune – After the violence at Koregaon Bhima on January 1, an FIR has been registered against Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani and student leader from JNU Umar Khalid for their alleged provocative speeches at Elgaar Parishad held at Shaniwarwada on December 31.
One youth had died in stone pelting while several others were injured. About 300 were damaged, when two groups clashed. Lakhs of people had come to Vijaystambh to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Battle of Koregaon Bhima between British and Maratha Peshwa armies.
After complaints lodged by Akshay Bikkad (22) and Anand Dhond (25), an FIR was registered Wednesday night at Vishrambag police station against Mewani and Khalid for promoting enmity between different groups through their speeches.
