Pune, 18th February 2025: The state government has announced a significant decision to support female students from minority communities. Under the new policy, students from classes 10th to 12th, ITI, diploma, and technical college courses will now be eligible for admission to hostels originally designated for girls pursuing higher education. This move aims to provide safe and affordable accommodation to more deserving students.

The Minority Development Department has issued a government resolution (GR) regarding this initiative. In 2010, the state government decided to establish hostels for minority community girls pursuing higher education in every district. Admission criteria were subsequently set in 2013 and 2021. However, due to a significant number of vacant seats, the government has now revised the policy to extend hostel facilities to a broader group of students.

After the admission process for higher education students is completed, any remaining vacant seats in these hostels will be allocated to:
Students from classes 10th to 12th
ITI and diploma students
Students enrolled in diploma-equivalent and technical institute courses

Key Guidelines:
Hostel fees will remain the same as those fixed in 2013 and 2014.
Students from families with an annual income below ₹8 lakh will be exempted from the admission fee.
The decision has been implemented with immediate effect, allowing students to begin the admission process right away.

This policy expansion is expected to enhance educational access for students from rural and economically weaker backgrounds. Providing government hostel facilities will not only improve their living conditions but also contribute to better academic performance by offering a safe and conducive environment for learning.
