Swargate, 27th February 2025: Following the recent shocking news of a rape in a Shivshahi Bus at Swargate Depot in Pune, reports have emerged that the CCTV cameras near the incident site were facing the sky. As a result, Pune Police had to rely on other CCTV footage to search for the accused.

Swargate is a bustling bus depot located in the heart of Pune City, serving thousands of citizens travelling to different parts of Pune District and Maharashtra. However, the incident has raised concerns about the administration’s commitment to citizens’ safety.

The young woman was reportedly raped in the central area’s parking lot. Shockingly, the nearby CCTV cameras were either facing the ground or the sky, rendering them ineffective. This is not an isolated incident, as the Swargate area and bus depot have previously reported numerous cases of pickpocketing and theft.

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) Administration stated that there are a total of 24 CCTV cameras in the Swargate Depot Area, all of which are functional. They added that if any such issues are occurring, they will gather information and repair the cameras as necessary.

This incident highlights the need for improved security measures and proper maintenance of surveillance equipment in public spaces to ensure the safety of citizens.
