Pune/Sangli, 12th March 2025: In a significant move, Gajanan alias Gaja Marne, a notorious gangster from Pune, has been transferred to Sangli Jail. This decision comes after Marne was booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for his involvement in several criminal activities, including a recent assault on an IT engineer in the Kothrud area of Pune.

According to media reports, the transfer has prompted heightened security measures at Sangli Jail, with sources indicating that the move was made to ensure safety and maintain order.

Marne’s transfer was reportedly made from Pune’s Yerawada Jail to Sangli, where he is being kept in one of the four barracks with enhanced security. The jail administration has increased vigilance, deploying additional guards and activating electric fencing around the perimeter.

This move follows Marne’s arrest for allegedly assaulting an IT engineer, among other cases. He has a total of 28 criminal cases registered against him across various police stations in Pune.

The reasons behind transferring such a high-profile criminal to Sangli remain undisclosed, but it is believed to be part of efforts to manage security risks effectively. The Sangli Jail administration has maintained secrecy about the transfer, emphasizing caution and security measures to prevent any potential disturbances.

When asked about Gaja Marne’s transfer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Nikhil Pingle, in charge of Pune Police’s Crime Branch, confirmed it to Punekar News. “The court orders the placement of inmates based on convenience and available space,” said DCP Pingle.
