Pune, 18th March 2025: In the wake of violent clashes in Nagpur involving incidents of arson and stone-pelting, law enforcement agencies across Maharashtra have been placed on high alert. Pune police have ramped up security at sensitive locations to prevent any potential disturbances.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and Joint Commissioner Ranjankumar Sharma have directed officers to remain on high alert and take necessary precautions to maintain law and order.

The unrest in Nagpur, which occurred on Monday night, saw multiple vehicles set ablaze, large stones hurled at passing traffic, and CCTV cameras destroyed. Several two-wheelers were torched, while residential properties also came under attack.

In response to the violence, Pune police have intensified patrolling in sensitive areas and have set up additional security checkpoints near religious sites. A unit of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) has also been stationed in the city as a precautionary measure.

Authorities have reassured residents that the situation in Pune remains under control and that there is no cause for alarm. “We urge citizens not to believe in rumors and to report any suspicious activities immediately,” said a senior police official.
