Pune, 21st March 2025: A significant update has emerged in the Pune bus rape case, where a 26-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted inside a parked Shivshahi bus at Swargate depot. Forensic examination of the bus has provided crucial insights into the incident, shedding light on why the victim’s cries for help were not heard outside. The investigation revealed that the bus’s air-conditioned windows were closed, which muffled the victim’s voice, preventing it from being audible outside.

The accused, Dattatraya Gade, was arrested after a 70-hour manhunt involving drones and police squads. He had been hiding in his village in Shirur, Pune district. Gade, a known history-sheeter with multiple criminal cases against him, allegedly posed as a conductor to lure the victim into the bus. The police have gathered substantial evidence against him, including forensic analysis and witness statements.

The forensic examination was part of a broader investigation aimed at gathering robust evidence against Gade. The case has sparked widespread outrage and calls for enhanced security measures at public transport hubs. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has already taken steps to improve security by replacing personnel and enhancing surveillance at bus depots.
