Jaipur Doctor Arrested in Pune for Rs 1.71 Crore Cryptocurrency Fraud
Pune, 30th March 2025: A 45-year-old doctor from Jaipur was arrested by the Chatushrungi police on Friday for allegedly defrauding a Baner-based dermatologist and two others by persuading them to invest ₹1.71 crore in cryptocurrency between 2022 and 2024.
The accused, identified as Dr. Mohit Mukesh Nagar (45), was produced before a magistrate’s court, which remanded him to police custody until April 2.
According to Assistant Inspector Sachin Karande, Dr. Nagar and the complainant, a dermatologist from Baner, had known each other for years as both were originally from Jaipur. “The accused used to visit the dermatologist’s clinic for treatment. Over time, he gained their trust and convinced them, along with two of their friends, to invest in cryptocurrency, promising lucrative returns,” Karande said.
However, despite the substantial investment, Dr. Nagar allegedly failed to deliver the promised profits. When repeated requests for returns went unanswered, the victims realized they had been deceived. Subsequently, they approached the police, leading to the registration of a cheating case on February 2, 2025.
Authorities are now investigating how Dr. Nagar operated the alleged scam and whether more individuals were defrauded under similar circumstances. “We are examining his financial transactions and digital records to uncover the full extent of his activities,” an officer said.
Police have urged individuals to exercise caution while investing in cryptocurrency and to thoroughly verify schemes before committing large sums of money.
