Pune: Honest Kids Return Lost Rs 4.5 Lakh Mohanmala to Owner in Saswad
Saswad, 31st March 2025: In an inspiring act of honesty, two young boys from Saswad found a gold Mohanmala worth over ₹4.5 lakh while playing outside their home and immediately ensured its safe return. Unaware of its value, they took the necklace home, where their family recognized it as genuine gold and promptly handed it over to the police.
The incident took place near the historic Kunjirwada area, where former municipal councilor Jitendra (Sonu Kaka) Jagtap resides. His young relatives—9-year-old Varun Pradeep Jagtap and 8-year-old Sharv Raj Mahendra Jagtap—were playing outside when they noticed a gleaming necklace on the ground. Out of curiosity, they picked it up and showed it to their family. Understanding the significance of the find, Jagtap took the children to the Saswad Police Station to ensure the necklace reached its rightful owner.
Assistant Police Inspector Vaibhav Sonawane and Sub-Inspector Ganesh Patil took charge of tracing the owner. They circulated information about the found jewelry, which soon reached Megha Ramesh Gaikwad from Katraj, Pune. She had lost the Mohanmala during a pre-wedding photoshoot near the Sangameshwar Temple in Saswad. While searching for it, she and her family learned that it had been turned in to the police. After verifying ownership through receipts and other details, the police returned the necklace to her.
The Mohanmala, weighing 52 grams, had fallen unnoticed during the photoshoot. Overwhelmed with joy, Megha Gaikwad expressed her gratitude to the Jagtap family and the police. “This necklace was meant for my wedding, and getting it back feels like a blessing,” she said.
Sub-Inspector Ganesh Patil highlighted the importance of honesty and social awareness, urging citizens to act responsibly in similar situations. As a token of appreciation, the police department honored the children and Jagtap for their integrity, setting an example for society.
