Pune Records Highest Average March Temperature in a Decade

Pune, 2nd April 2025: The city has experienced an unusually hot March this year, with the highest average maximum temperature in the last decade. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures in Pune remained consistently above average, with some areas crossing 40 degrees Celsius.

The highest maximum temperature in Pune was recorded at Lohegaon at 41.4 degrees Celsius, while Shivajinagar recorded 39 degrees Celsius on March 30 and 39.2 degrees Celsius on March 31. The average maximum temperature at Shivajinagar stood at 37.6 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees higher than the normal March average.

Hottest March in a Decade
The IMD has maintained weather records since 1889, and historical data reveals that Shivajinagar had recorded an all-time high March temperature of 42.8 degrees Celsius on March 28, 1892.

A decade-wise analysis of average March temperatures in Shivajinagar highlights a steady rise in temperatures over the years:

This year’s March average is the highest in the past ten years, indicating a significant warming trend.

Temperature Trends and IMD Insights
Commenting on this rising temperature pattern, IMD scientist S.D. Sanap stated, “There were significant temperature fluctuations in February, but March remained consistently warm. The maximum temperature throughout the month was two degrees Celsius above normal, while the minimum temperature was 1.5 degrees above normal. However, despite the heat, the city did not experience an official heatwave, as Shivajinagar did not cross 40 degrees Celsius even once.”

Hot April Ahead, Possibility of Light Rain
According to the IMD forecast, temperatures in April are also expected to remain above average. However, cloudy weather is predicted for the next few days, with a chance of light rain in some parts of Madhya Maharashtra.
