Kothrud, 15th April 2025: A 30-year-old man from Kothrud has fallen victim to a cyber fraud, losing nearly ₹39.77 lakh after being lured into an online gaming scam. Kothrud Police have registered a case against the unidentified cyber criminals.

The victim, who resides with his family in the Kothrud area, received a message about an online game in November last year. Out of curiosity, he downloaded the game and registered on the platform. Initially, he invested ₹10,000 and lost the amount. Undeterred, he continued investing in phases, eventually putting in around ₹5.75 lakh. At one point, he earned a profit of ₹1 lakh, which encouraged him to invest further.

Over the span of five to six months, his total investment rose to a staggering ₹39.77 lakh, which he ultimately lost. Realizing he had been duped, the youth approached the Kothrud Police Station and filed a formal complaint.

Under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Sandeep Deshmane, an investigation is currently underway.

The game in question involves an animated airplane that remains airborne for varying durations. The longer it stays in the air, the more betting points a player earns. The addictive nature of the game and its promotion by a well-known cricketer have drawn several youngsters into the trap, hoping for quick financial gains.

Police have issued a public advisory urging citizens to steer clear of such online games, warning that many such platforms are fronts for cyber fraud.
