Pune, 2nd November 2026: Indapur recorded the highest rainfall in Pune district at 131mm in the 24 hours ending 8.30am on Monday, followed by Baramati at 77.2mm, as heavy overnight showers triggered severe waterlogging in several parts of Pune rural, including the Baramati and Indapur regions. Chakan also witnessed severe waterlogging, disrupting movement on roads.

Pune city recorded 41.1mm of rainfall at Shivajinagar during the same period, while Hadapsar received 35.5mm, Haveli 35mm and Magarpatta 30.5mm. Ambegaon recorded 49.5mm, while Shirur and Dhamdhere received 39mm and 39.5mm, respectively.

The rain, which intensified after midnight on Sunday, left several major roads and internal lanes in Pune waterlogged, slowing traffic during the Monday morning rush. Several traffic signals stopped functioning, further disrupting vehicular movement. Traffic police said the pace of traffic had slowed due to water accumulation and rainfall.

The showers also led to tree branches falling at several locations. A large tree collapsed in the Khadki Bazaar area around midnight, but no one was injured. Fire brigade personnel cleared fallen branches and trees to restore traffic movement.

Temporary Diwali stalls set up around Mahatma Phule Mandai and Shaniwar Peth were also affected, with rainwater entering shops and damaging merchandise. The unseasonal showers left traders and vendors scrambling to protect their goods as the festive shopping period gathered pace.

The city had received showers around 8.30pm on Sunday, followed by another spell of heavy rain around midnight. Rain continued into Monday morning, with showers persisting even after 9am.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast mainly clear skies turning partly cloudy towards the afternoon or evening on Monday, with very light to light rain likely. The weather department has issued a rain alert for Pune and its surrounding areas for two days.
