Viman Nagar, 20th May 2025: A spell of intense rain on Monday evening left large parts of Pune waterlogged, with the newly inaugurated terminal of Pune International Airport among the worst-hit locations. Passengers arriving during peak hours were met with flooded exit routes, forcing many to wade through water.

“It was shocking to see such flooding at the airport. I had just landed and couldn’t get a cab because the exit road was under water,” said a passenger who arrived on a morning flight. “We expect better infrastructure at such an important gateway to the city.”

The flooding caused significant inconvenience to travelers, many of whom had to carry their luggage through stagnant water. The situation triggered strong criticism on social media, with several users tagging civic authorities and questioning the quality of recent construction work.

The incident also brought attention back to the city’s recurring issue of poor drainage. Urban planning experts have long warned about Pune’s aging and inefficient stormwater systems.

“It only appeared severe due to the heavy rainfall, but there was no waterlogging. Everything returned to normal within half an hour. Flight operations were not affected, and all activities continued smoothly without any hindrance,” informed Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhoke.
