Pune: Dive Ghat to Close Temporarily Daily for Blasting Work as Part of Palkhi Highway Widening Project

Fursungi, 20th May 2025: As part of the widening work on the Hadapsar–Saswad Palkhi Marg, the Dive Ghat stretch will be temporarily closed for short durations due to controlled blasting activities. The National Highways Department and the Fursungi Traffic Police have advised motorists to use alternate routes during the affected hours.
Blasting operations are currently underway at Dive Ghat to clear rocky terrain for the road-widening project. As a precaution, the ghat section will be closed to traffic for 20 to 30 minutes daily between 12 PM and 3 PM to prevent accidents from falling debris.
Sub-Inspector Shivaji Mane from the Fursungi Traffic Division and Arvind Srivastava, project manager of the road-widening contractor, shared details about the operation. “Blasting is essential to break through the difficult rock formations at Dive Ghat. Large stones often dislodge and fall onto the road during this process, posing a serious safety risk,” they said.
They added that traffic will be halted during the blasting period to ensure the road is cleared of rocks and debris before being reopened. The road from Styapuram to Dive Ghat is being upgraded on a fast-track basis.
Authorities have requested commuters to avoid the Saswad route during the scheduled blasting hours and opt for alternate routes. However, if diversion is not possible, travelers may need to wait for 20 to 30 minutes either before or after the ghat section.
Both Mane and Srivastava appealed to the public for their cooperation, emphasizing that the widening project will ultimately provide a safer and smoother travel experience for all road users once completed.
