Pune: PMC Provides Free Medical Care to Over 30,000 Warkaris During Ashadhi Wari
Pune, 23rd June 2025: In a remarkable public health initiative, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) provided free medical care to over 30,000 Warkaris participating in the Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage over the past two days. The extensive medical assistance was offered along the palkhi routes as part of the civic body’s commitment to support the annual spiritual procession.
According to the PMC’s Health Department, a total of 22 mobile medical teams were deployed on the palkhi route, comprising 75 doctors and medical staff, 15 ambulances (including PMC-operated and 108 emergency service vehicles), and two mobile medical clinics.
On Friday, June 21, PMC ensured that all municipal hospitals remained open for outpatient services, treating 21,151 Warkaris across various facilities. On Saturday, an additional 8,936 pilgrims received medical attention at 10 dedicated medical service centers set up near the palkhi resting sites.
The round-the-clock medical support was part of a coordinated effort to ensure the health and safety of thousands of devotees walking long distances as part of the spiritual journey from Dehu and Alandi to Pandharpur.
Officials stated that the initiative aims to not only provide timely medical relief but also ensure that no pilgrim suffers due to lack of healthcare access during this sacred event.
