Pune: Tourism Banned at Rajgad, Torna Forts, Madhe Ghat, and Dam Areas Until September 30 Due to Heavy Rainfall Risk
Velhe, 23rd June 2025: In view of the onset of heavy monsoon rains and the heightened risk of natural disasters, local authorities have issued a ban on tourism at several popular destinations in Rajgad Taluka, including Rajgad Fort, Torna Fort, Madhe Ghat waterfall, and the areas surrounding Panshet, Varasgaon, and Gunjavani dams. The order, issued by Sub-Divisional Officer Dr. Vikas Kharat, will remain in effect from June 22 to September 30, 2025.
These locations typically attract a large number of tourists during the monsoon season for trekking and nature getaways. However, persistent rainfall, fog, slippery trails, narrow hill roads, and frequent landslides in the region have significantly increased the risk of accidents.
To prevent untoward incidents and ensure public safety, restrictions have been imposed under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Code, 2023.
Key Prohibitions During the Ban Period:
Entering fast-flowing rivers or swimming in them.
Playing loud music in public or natural areas.
Consumption, possession, transportation, or sale of alcohol in public or natural areas.
Climbing on or sitting under waterfalls.
Littering public areas with glass, plastic bottles, thermocol, or any plastic waste.
Taking selfies or filming at risky spots.
Parking or halting vehicles on dangerous or narrow roads.
On-ground enforcement has already begun. Forest and disaster management officials, along with heritage watchmen like Bapu Sable, Pawan Sakhare, Akash Kachare, and Vishal Pilavare, are stationed near base points like Pal Khurd to ensure compliance.
The administration has urged tourists and adventure seekers to cooperate fully and prioritize safety over recreation during this monsoon season.
