Pune: IT Professionals, Citizens, MLA Unite to Demand Hinjawadi Merger with PCMC
Hinjawadi, 25th June 2025: The campaign demanding the inclusion of Hinjewadi in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has gained significant momentum with the public endorsement of Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap. Lending political weight to the citizen-led movement, Jagtap said, “I am with the citizens of Hinjawadi on this issue.”
The initiative, launched under the banner of #UNCLOGHinjawadiITPark, aims to resolve persistent civic issues faced by residents and IT professionals in the Hinjawadi IT Park area. The campaign was spearheaded by Sachin Londhe, President of the Wakad-Pimpri Chinchwad Resident Development and Welfare Association (WPRDWA). Since its launch, the online signature drive has seen growing participation from citizens frustrated by poor road conditions, traffic congestion, and inadequate infrastructure.
Speaking on the matter, MLA Shankar Jagtap said, “The people of Hinjawadi and those working in the IT sector are facing severe inconvenience due to substandard civic amenities. The only sustainable solution lies in integrating Hinjawadi into the municipal limits. I fully support this demand and will actively pursue the matter with the concerned authorities.”
The demand to merge Hinjawadi with PCMC stems from the fact that, currently, the area falls under the jurisdiction of multiple administrative bodies including the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), and local gram panchayats. This fragmented governance has been cited as a major reason for delayed infrastructure development and lack of accountability.
Citizens involved in the campaign believe that municipal governance would bring better roads, improved public transport, reliable water supply, and efficient waste management. They argue that the merger would not only ease life for the thousands of professionals working in the IT Park but also accelerate the growth of the tech industry in the region.
With MLA Jagtap’s endorsement, the campaign has entered a new phase, with plans to formally submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and the Urban Development Department in the coming days. Organisers and supporters are optimistic that the state government will respond positively and take necessary steps to initiate the merger process.
