Pune: Who’s Digging Kalyani Nagar? Residents Demand Answers as Road Work Continues Without Notice
Kalyani Nagar, 25th June 2025: Residents of Kalyani Nagar have raised serious concerns over repeated and unplanned road digging on D-Mart Lane and near Gold Adlabs Chowk (VIP Road to Airport), calling it a “chronic nuisance” that poses grave risks, especially during the monsoon.
According to citizens, this is the fifth or sixth round of excavation in recent months, with work beginning again just as heavy rains have started. The incomplete and poorly restored patches have turned the stretch into a bumpy, uneven, and dangerous road, endangering commuters, particularly two-wheeler riders and pedestrians.
“Each time they dig, they leave the road worse than before. There’s no proper leveling, just patchwork. In the rains, it’s an accident waiting to happen,” said Haresh Bharwani, a local resident who also shared videos and photos of the damaged stretch.
Citizens’ Key Concerns:
No signage on-site about the contracting agency, contact information, or work timeline
Lack of communication from authorities
Absence of accountability and transparency on which agency is responsible
Increased risk of accidents and damage to vehicles
No proper planning or restoration post-digging
Residents have demanded that the entire road be re-laid and no further digging be permitted without public notification, deadline commitments, and safety provisions. The absence of basic infrastructure safety measures like warning boards or barricades has only worsened the situation.
“We are not against development. But irresponsible, uncoordinated digging without timely restoration is making daily life unsafe and miserable,” said another resident.
Local civic bodies and road authorities have yet to respond to the complaints. Citizens are now urging the Pune Municipal Corporation and other relevant agencies to step in before a serious accident occurs.
