Hinjawadi, 1st November 2026: Even before its official inauguration, the much-awaited Shivajinagar-Hinjawadi Metro Line 3 has come under scrutiny after rainwater leakage was reported at Maan Metro Station on Sunday evening. Water seeped through the station’s roof and accumulated in areas used by passengers, raising concerns over construction quality just two days before the scheduled inauguration.

The Metro Line 3 project, being developed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) through Tata Group and Siemens, is scheduled to be inaugurated on November 3 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Videos showing water leaking from the ceiling at Maan Metro Station have surfaced on social media. The visuals show rainwater dripping onto the passenger movement area and concourse. Station staff were seen using buckets and floor wipers to collect and remove the water.

The incident has triggered questions among local residents and IT professionals about the quality of construction and whether adequate checks have been carried out before opening the corridor for public use.

Leakage reported during unseasonal rainfall

The leakage was reported after thunderstorms and rainfall affected the Hinjawadi-Maan area on Sunday. Within minutes of the rain beginning, water reportedly started seeping through joints and panels in the station’s roof.

Water accumulated near the passenger walkway and ticketing area, requiring staff to undertake immediate cleaning and water-removal measures.

The incident has also raised concerns about the possible impact of water leakage on electrical installations, escalators, lifts and other equipment at the station. Commuters and IT professionals have called for the authorities to ensure that all safety-related issues are addressed before passenger services begin.

Metro inauguration scheduled for November 3

The leakage incident comes shortly after PMRDA Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhari announced preparations for the inauguration of Metro Line 3.

The main inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Balewadi Sports Complex on November 3. According to the announced plan, regular passenger services are expected to begin on November 4 at 17 of the corridor’s 23 stations.

The administration has highlighted several features of the project, including women locomotive pilots and solar-powered infrastructure, while promoting it as the environment-friendly ‘Puneri Metro’.

However, the leakage at Maan station ahead of the launch has raised questions about the readiness of the infrastructure for passenger operations.

Demand for inspection before public opening

The incident has prompted concerns over whether construction and quality checks have been completed adequately before the inauguration.

Some residents and IT professionals have questioned the urgency of opening the corridor if infrastructure-related issues remain unresolved.

Demands have also emerged for an immediate inspection of the station, repairs to the leaking sections and a detailed assessment of construction quality before passenger services commence.

The response of PMRDA and Tata, the project partners, to the reported leakage and the steps taken to address it were not available at the time of publication.
