Train Travel Update: First Reservation Chart Now 8 Hours Before Departure – Check Details
Pune, 7th July 2025: In a move aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and streamlining operations, Indian Railways has revised the timing for the preparation and release of reservation charts for Mail and Express trains.
Currently, the first reservation chart — which includes passenger names, coach numbers, and berth details — is prepared and released four hours prior to the scheduled departure of the train from its originating or remote station.
However, as per new directives issued by the Railway Board, effective July 10, 2025, the first reservation chart will now be prepared and released eight hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
Revised Charting Timings:
For trains departing between 05:00 hrs and 14:00 hrs, the first reservation chart will be prepared by 21:00 hrs on the previous day.
For trains departing between 14:00 hrs and 05:00 hrs, the first chart will be prepared 8 hours before departure.
The second and final reservation chart will continue to be prepared 30 minutes before the train’s scheduled departure, with no change to the current procedure.
Passengers will still be able to book vacant berths between the release of the first and second charts.
Indian Railways has urged passengers to take note of the revised charting schedule. The decision is expected to reduce last-minute rush at boarding points and help passengers plan their journeys more efficiently.
