Pune, 7th July 2025: In a bid to ensure transparency and citizen safety, Deputy Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Swapnil Bhosale has urged vehicle owners to pay the prescribed fee for High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) only through the official government website — transport.maharashtra.gov.in.

The appeal comes as part of a statewide effort to implement the Supreme Court’s directive mandating HSRP installation on all vehicles. The move aims to curb crimes involving tampered or fake number plates, ensure accurate vehicle identification, and bolster national security.

“HSRP is a crucial step toward reducing criminal activities related to vehicle identity manipulation. It enables better enforcement, road safety, and national security,” said Bhosale in an official press release.

The Maharashtra government has made it mandatory for all vehicles manufactured before April 1, 2019, to be fitted with HSRP. While newer vehicles already come equipped with HSRP, this directive covers older vehicles still plying on roads across the state.

Bhosale also cautioned citizens against falling prey to unauthorized agents or fraudulent portals claiming to facilitate HSRP registration.
“To avoid fraud or overcharging, all payments must be made only through the official government website,” he added.

The RTO has also urged citizens to comply promptly, stating that timely installation of HSRPs will contribute significantly to public safety and smoother traffic enforcement.
