Pune: 7 Students Injured After Speeding Car Loses Control in Lohgaon
Lohgaon, 11th July 2025: A speeding car lost control and ploughed into a group of college students standing along the Lohgaon-Wadgaon Shinde Road, injuring seven of them, before crashing into four parked two-wheelers around 3:30 pm on Tuesday.
The group, comprising three girls and four boys, were standing near their college when the accident occurred. The impact also damaged two-wheelers parked nearby, which belonged to other students.
According to Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Dhamane of Airport Police Station, “Six of the injured students are 17-year-old undergraduates enrolled in a business administration course, while the seventh is a 21-year-old pursuing a postgraduate degree in the same stream.”
“All of them are originally from different cities in North India and currently reside in hostels in the Lohegaon area,” he added.
Four of the victims sustained fractures in their legs, while the remaining three suffered varying degrees of leg injuries. Fortunately, all of them are currently out of danger.
Police have identified the driver as a 31-year-old resident of Wadgaon Shinde, employed as clerical staff at a private firm. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
“The driver claimed he got distracted due to personal thoughts and lost control of the vehicle. By the time he tried to apply the brakes, he had already hit the group and rammed into the parked two-wheelers,” said API Dhamane.
A medical examination confirmed that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
“He has been served a notice and released for now. We have instructed him to cooperate with the investigation and report to the police when called,” Dhamane added.
The police are continuing their probe to determine whether negligence or overspeeding contributed to the crash.
