Pune, 11th July 2025: The long-awaited development plan (DP) for Yewalewadi has finally received approval from the Maharashtra state government, bringing relief to residents of the village that was merged into the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in 2012. The approval comes after a prolonged delay of 13 years since its inclusion in city limits.

Yewalewadi was among the newer villages added to PMC limits, following the earlier merger of 23 villages in 1997. The PMC began drafting development plans for newly merged villages in 2014, and the draft DP for Yewalewadi was released in 2017 after approvals from the City Improvement Committee and the General Body.

Following the draft publication, the civic body conducted a formal process to collect objections and suggestions from the public. The final plan was submitted to the state’s Urban Development Department in 2018. However, it remained pending for seven years, resulting in delays in implementing planned infrastructure and services in the area.

Due to the absence of a sanctioned development blueprint, Yewalewadi witnessed a significant rise in unauthorized constructions over the years, including on government-owned land, local officials noted.
Modifications Made Before Final Approval
The state government has cleared the DP with some minor modifications to the plan submitted by PMC. The original proposal included 42 reservations for amenities such as public facilities, roads, and open spaces.

According to officials, the approved changes include the widening of three proposed roads from 9 meters to 15 meters and the addition of a dedicated reservation for a playground. These adjustments aim to accommodate future growth and improve livability in the area.
