Pune: New Roads and Traffic Plan Soon for Hinjawadi, Says Deputy CM Pawar
Pune, 13th July 2025: Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister of Pune District Ajit Pawar has directed administrative agencies to take immediate and concrete measures to address the worsening traffic congestion and infrastructure issues in Hinjawadi, Pune’s prominent IT hub. He was speaking at a review meeting held at the PMRDA (Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority) office on Sunday.
Pawar emphasized the importance of swift traffic movement for the continued growth of the IT sector in Hinjawadi and surrounding areas like Maan and Marunji. He instructed officials to propose new alternative roads and initiate road widening projects to improve access and reduce congestion.
Crackdown on Encroachments Over Natural Water Channels
During the meeting, Pawar also raised concern about encroachments over natural streams and drains, which have been blocking the flow of rainwater and leading to waterlogging in several parts of Hinjawadi IT Park. He instructed the administration to demolish unauthorized structures, restore the natural drainage, and take strict action against those who diverted water channels illegally.
“These encroachments are not only damaging the infrastructure but are also creating serious problems for the local population during monsoon. Immediate action must be taken,” Pawar said.
He directed the concerned departments to submit a detailed report on illegal constructions, investigate who altered the water flow, and include new road plans in the development strategy to ensure smooth traffic.
Inspection of Metro Line 3 Work
Before the meeting, Ajit Pawar conducted an on-site inspection of Pune Metro Line 3, particularly in Hinjawadi IT Park, and reviewed the progress of metro station construction. He urged Metro and Tata company officials to expedite the project, noting that timely completion of Metro Line 3 is crucial for reducing vehicular traffic in the area.
