Raigad, 15th July 2025: Citing safety concerns due to ongoing heavy rainfall, the Raigad district authorities have temporarily shut down the traditional stairway leading to the historic Raigad Fort till 15th August. The route will remain inaccessible throughout the monsoon season to prevent accidents linked to slippery surfaces, waterlogging, and potential landslides.

Raigad District Collector Kishan Jawale confirmed the precautionary closure after conducting a joint site inspection with Superintendent of Police Anchal Dalal. The review highlighted alarming conditions, including fast-moving water on the stone steps and soil erosion along the slopes.

“Visitor safety is our top priority,” said Collector Jawale. “Given the current weather conditions, it is unsafe to allow access to the traditional route. We request tourists to avoid the stairway until the monsoon season ends.”

Police officials echoed the sentiment, urging the public to comply with the directive. “Our teams are keeping close watch on the fort premises and approach paths. We urge everyone to follow the safety advisories and not attempt to bypass the restrictions,” said SP Anchal Dalal.

So far, no official alternative route has been designated for fort access, but the administration is reportedly evaluating options. In the meantime, local monitoring teams have been deployed to track rainfall impact and respond swiftly to any emergencies.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy to very heavy rainfall for the Konkan region, placing district authorities on high alert.
