Land Acquisition for Pune’s Ring Road to Be Carried Out in Consultation with Farmers: PMRDA Commissioner
Pune, July 16, 2025: Land acquisition for the proposed 65-meter-wide internal ring road will be carried out only after thorough dialogue and coordination with the affected farmers, assured Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase. He was speaking at an interaction with farmers held on Wednesday at the G.D. Madgulkar Hall.
Dr. Mhase emphasized that protecting farmers’ interests would be the top priority during the land acquisition process. “No farmer will face losses. Decisions will be made in consultation with them, and their rights and concerns will be respected throughout the process,” he said.
Farmers who voluntarily agree to give up their land will be eligible to receive 25% additional compensation from the government, it was clarified during the meeting. Officials also highlighted how the ring road would improve connectivity for several villages and significantly increase the value of the remaining land parcels owned by farmers.
The session included detailed guidance on acquisition models like direct purchase, consent-based purchase, Transferable Development Rights (TDR), and incentive FSI (Floor Space Index). Discussions were held with farmers impacted by Phase I and Phase II of the project.
The session was organized to address questions and concerns regarding the acquisition process. Farmers were briefed on how land acquisition is conducted and reassured about transparency and fairness. Officials also listened to the farmers’ individual grievances and promised appropriate redressal.
The farmers in attendance came from villages that will be impacted by the ring road project. These include Vadgaon Shinde, Nirgudi, Ambegaon Khurd, Jambhulwadi, Bhilarewadi, Mangdewadi, Gujar Nimbalkarwadi, Yewalewadi, Pisoli, Vadachiwadi, Kadamwakvasti (Taluka Haveli), and Solu (Taluka Khed).
