Pune: Shopkeeper Assaulted Over Extortion Demand in Bavdhan; Four Arrested
Pune, 16th July 2025: A shopkeeper in Bhukum was brutally assaulted by a gang demanding extortion late Sunday night. The incident occurred around 10 PM on 13th July within the jurisdiction of Bavdhan Police Station.
The complaint was filed by Govind Yadav (45), a resident of Bhukum. Based on his statement, a case has been registered against Yusuf Shaikh (24, Pirangut), Rishikesh Kamble (21, Pirangut), Krishna Kamble (19, Lavale Phata), Prajwal Mudal (19, Lavale Phata), Kalicharan Thakur, Gotya Bhai, Sahil Sangle, and three to four unidentified individuals.
According to police, the accused stormed into Yadav’s shop and issued a threat, saying, “If you want to continue running your shop here, pay Rs 5 lakh and Rs 20,000 every month.” When Yadav and his son refused, they were physically assaulted with punches and kicks, along with verbal abuse and threats.
One of the accused stabbed Yadav on the shoulder while another injured his son on the thigh. The gang also forcibly took Yadav’s phone, demanded the passcode, and withdrew Rs 90,000 through Google Pay and PhonePe accounts. Additionally, they snatched Rs 4,000 in cash from his pocket and another Rs 6,000 from his pant pocket, taking a total of Rs 1.04 lakh.
Bavdhan Police have arrested four of the accused, Yusuf, Rishikesh, Krishna, and Prajwal, while efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the remaining suspects. An investigation is underway.
