Pune: Undri, Mohammadwadi Residents Meet PMC Chief Over Long-Pending Civic Issues
Pune, 17th July 2025: Seeking urgent redressal for long-neglected infrastructure woes, members of the Mohammadwadi Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation (MURWDF) met Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram on Wednesday to highlight the civic challenges faced by residents of Undri, Mohammadwadi, and NIBM Annexe areas.
During the meeting, the delegation expressed concern over the lack of basic civic facilities, despite the merger of these suburbs into the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in 2019. Residents shared that issues such as poor roads, encroachments, traffic chaos, and pending drainage connections have continued to disrupt daily life.
Encroachments and Road Hazards Top the Agenda
Among the most pressing concerns raised was severe traffic congestion caused by illegal encroachments at Mohammadwadi and Kad Nagar chowks. The group pointed out that roads such as the Nyati Estate to Undri Marg and Kad Nagar Chowk to Mohammadwadi Chowk not only suffer from poor maintenance but are also obstructed by unauthorized structures.
“Motorists face daily risks due to narrow lanes, potholes, and streetlight poles dangerously positioned in the middle of roads—especially at Kad Nagar Chowk,” said one of the members of the delegation. “This situation is not only inconvenient but hazardous.”
Incomplete Drainage, Poor Lighting Raise Health and Safety Concerns
The delegation also flagged the issue of incomplete drainage connections that have remained unresolved for over a year. As a result, frequent waterlogging and unhygienic conditions have become common, especially during monsoon.
Another serious concern was the lack of proper streetlighting and CCTV surveillance, making large stretches of Undri and Mohammadwadi unsafe at night, particularly for women, children, and senior citizens.
“There are several isolated areas with no lighting or security monitoring.
This increases the risk of accidents and antisocial activities,” a resident said, urging the PMC to expedite installation of lights and surveillance systems.

PMC Promises Action
Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram assured the residents that the corporation is aware of the situation and that efforts will be made to prioritize and address the most urgent issues.
“We understand the concerns raised by residents and will ensure that necessary corrective measures are taken at the earliest,” Ram told the delegation.
