Pune Citizens Team Up with PMC to Fix Their Neighborhoods – Here’s How
Pune, 18th July 2025: In a significant step towards creating an encroachment-free, cleaner, and greener Pune, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has rolled out its zone-wise Public Partnership Initiative, with Zone 1 Commissioner Madhav Jagtap formally launching the program on 16th July 2025 at Annabhau Sathe Sabhagraha.
The initiative, envisioned by PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, aims to foster collaboration between the civic body and citizens across all wards by engaging local residents, NGOs, and PMC staff to identify and resolve civic issues at the grassroots level.
Zone 1, which includes the Nagar Road–Wadgaonsheri, Dhole Patil, and Yerwada–Kalas–Dhanori ward offices, is the first to implement the model. The first citizen-partner meeting was held today at the Nagar Road–Wadgaonsheri Ward Office, drawing enthusiastic participation from local residents and civic officials.
Speaking at the meeting, Madhav Jagtap detailed how the initiative will unfold:
28 roads/streets have been identified for the first month under this partnership
Selected citizens and PMC staff will jointly survey the areas to list problems
Review meetings every Monday will assess unresolved issues
Site visits will be conducted every Tuesday and Friday to track progress
“This is a fresh approach to long-standing civic challenges,” said Qaneez Sukhrani, Convenor of the Association of Nagar Road Citizens Forum and Viman Nagar Citizens Forum, who has been closely involved in community mobilization. “Citizens have often been critical of PMC’s performance, but this initiative gives us hope. The PMC staff seems genuinely committed, and residents are showing a strong will to engage.”
A list of 30 key civic concerns — ranging from waste management and road repairs to public amenities — has been identified for immediate attention under this pilot. If successful, the model will be replicated across other zones in Pune.
