Pune: Three Held with Illegal Firearms, Including Minor with Criminal Record
Sinhagad Road, 18th July 2025: Pune Police have arrested three individuals for illegally possessing weapons, including a minor with a criminal record. A total of four pistols and three live cartridges have been seized. The action was carried out by the Detection Branch (DB) of the Sinhagad Road Police Station.
The accused have been identified as Aniket Sonawane (26, resident of Dharashiv), Kiran Shinde (23, resident of Pune), and a minor. According to police reports, on July 4th, Police Sub-Inspector Santosh Bhandwalkar and his team were patrolling within the police station limits to prevent crime when Constables Vinayak Mohite, Rahul Olekar, and Ganesh Zagade received a tip-off from a reliable source. They were informed that a suspicious person was standing near the Sinhagad College cricket ground, possibly carrying weapons.
The team rushed to the location and found a person matching the description. He turned out to be a minor with a criminal background. Upon searching him, the police recovered a pistol worth Rs 40,000 and one live cartridge worth Rs 1,000. The minor was taken into custody and, during interrogation, revealed that he had recently procured three pistols. He said that one was with him, while another had been given to co-accused Aniket Sonawane. Based on this information, Sonawane was detained, and further investigation led to the seizure of three pistols and one live cartridge, collectively worth Rs 1.21 lakh.

In a separate incident, police arrested externed criminal Kiran Shinde and recovered one pistol and two live cartridges from his possession.
Investigations are ongoing in both cases.
