Pune, 19th July 2025: In a series of cyber fraud cases, four individuals in different parts of Pune have lost a total of Rs 82.35 lakh after being lured into fake investment schemes and online scams. Pune Police have registered separate FIRs and launched investigations against the unidentified cyber criminals.
In the first incident, a resident of Ambegaon Budruk was conned out of Rs 23.19 lakh. The fraudsters contacted him via mobile in April, promising high returns through stock market investments. They added him to a social media group, initially offered small returns, and later convinced him to invest more. After transferring the total amount, the promised returns stopped. A complaint has been filed at Ambegaon Police Station.
Similarly, a resident from Warje fell victim to a comparable investment scam and lost Rs 23.39 lakh. The fraudsters used the same tactics, promising profits through the stock market.
In a third case, a young man from Vadgaonsheri was lured into an online task scam promising work-from-home opportunities. After an initial payout, he was convinced to invest more. He ended up transferring Rs 27.77 lakh to the fraudsters’ accounts. Realizing the deception, he lodged a complaint with Chandan Nagar Police Station.
The fourth case occurred in Lohgaon, where a youth lost Rs 7.99 lakh after fraudsters pretending to be bank officials obtained his credit card details. They used the information to take a loan on his card. A complaint has been filed at the Airport Police Station.
Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid sharing personal or financial information with unknown callers or on unverified platforms.
