Aundh, 31st July 2025: A fatal accident on Nagras Road in Aundh has ignited anger and grief among local residents and business owners, who are blaming the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for poor road conditions and chronic neglect of civic duties.

The victim, an elderly man from the Pinak Gangotri locality, reportedly died after falling due to a pothole near Rahul Restaurant. Eyewitnesses described the incident as preventable, attributing it to unsafe road conditions and a lack of basic infrastructure maintenance.

In response, a protest gathering is scheduled today at 5 PM at Bhale Chowk, near Rahul Restaurant, where citizens and members of the Aundh Vyapari Association will pay tribute to the deceased and demand concrete steps to improve road safety.

Nana Gopinath Valke, president of the traders’ association, urged residents and shopkeepers alike to come together and raise their voices for urgent civic reforms. “This is not the first such incident. We cannot stay silent anymore,” he stated.

Concerns over urban planning were also raised by residents, criticizing the so-called Smart City initiatives. “They’ve expanded footpaths but choked vehicle movement. Over 70 residential societies depend on this road, yet dangerous driving continues without checks,” said one of the residents.

Social activist Ganesh Kalapure said that numerous appeals have been made to the PMC and local police to improve road safety measures. “Despite several meetings, there are still no speed breakers, no pothole repairs, and barely any traffic patrolling,” he said, expressing frustration over the administration’s inaction.

The tragic loss has brought long-standing grievances to the forefront, as locals now demand both accountability for the death and sustainable solutions to prevent further mishaps.
