Chakan, 8th August 2025: Deputy Chief Minister and Pune District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar has directed authorities to urgently begin road widening and development in areas where encroachments have been cleared, particularly in the Hinjawadi and Chakan belts, to resolve growing traffic congestion.

Chairing a high-level meeting at the PMRDA headquarters in Akurdi on Friday morning, Pawar reviewed the severe traffic situation in the Chakan industrial corridor and urged swift coordination among departments to prevent re-encroachment and ensure timely road construction.

“Chakan MIDC faces daily traffic bottlenecks that inconvenience industrial workers and commuters alike. Once encroachments are removed, roads must be developed immediately — or else they’ll get occupied again,” Pawar warned.

The meeting saw participation from senior officials, including Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Anna Bansode, MLAs Shankar Mandekar and Babaji Kale, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, District Collector Jitendra Dudi, ZP CEO Gajanan Patil, and officials from PWD, MIDC, and other key departments.

Pawar emphasized the importance of inter-departmental coordination to ensure newly freed land is rapidly converted into motorable roads. He also instructed authorities to take legal action against individuals obstructing public development work.

With heavy goods vehicles contributing significantly to congestion in the industrial belt, Pawar recommended restricting their movement during peak hours. He also called for the establishment of a dedicated truck terminal within the MIDC zone and asked the police and RTO departments to collaborate on a workable plan.

Alongside traffic management, Pawar also directed the immediate removal of garbage piles and unauthorized structures blocking roads and public spaces.

PMRDA’s Phased Plan Gets Green Light:
During the meeting, PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase presented a phased traffic decongestion strategy for Chakan, combining short-term and long-term interventions along with implementation timelines. Pawar welcomed the roadmap and expressed optimism that, like in Hinjawadi, these coordinated efforts would soon ease the pressure on Chakan’s roads.

“The Hinjawadi model has shown positive results over the last month. If departments show the same spirit in Chakan, we’ll see noticeable improvements soon,” he added.

Inspection of Key Traffic Hotspots:
Prior to the meeting, the Deputy Chief Minister conducted a field visit to several critical junctions and traffic-heavy areas. These included Bharat Mata Chowk in Moshi, Samruddhi Petrol Pump (Sany Company), Nane Karwadi, Medankarwadi–Sase Phata, Chakan Chowk, Ambe Than Chowk, Kadhchiwadi, Hingne Chowk, Kharabwadi, and the Mahalunge MIDC Police Chowki Road.
