Pune, 8th August 2025: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to build seven new washrooms with air conditioning (AC) and modern technology. The work for the first phase has already begun in the Balewadi area and is expected to be completed in six months. These washrooms will have Wi-Fi, charging points for phones and laptops, bathing facilities, changing rooms, and ramps for the disabled. However, these toilets will not be free; users will have to pay a fee to access them.

PMC currently has many washrooms, but their usage is very low due to multiple reasons. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had given instructions to build VIP washrooms last year. In this year’s budget, Rs 4.31 crore was allotted for the project. Necessary staff will be deployed for cleaning and maintenance of the toilets. In case of construction by private organizations, a provision has been made to provide advertisement rights to cover the costs.

Proposals for two locations after Balewadi have been placed before the standing committee. Also, a search is underway for locations near Pune Railway Station, Pune International Airport, and Swargate Bus Stand. Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kadam (Solid Waste Management Department) said, “Modern and AC toilets will be constructed at seven locations for the convenience of people in Pune. Construction has started at one location, and work will start soon at the remaining locations.”
