IAF Hosts AVISEM-25 Seminar in Pune, Focuses on Self-Reliance in Avionics Development
Pune, 13th August 2025: The Indian Air Force’s Headquarters Maintenance Command (HQ MC) organised AVISEM-25, a two-day seminar on “Challenges in Avionics Development and Product Life Cycle Management,” on August 12–13 at the Base Repair Depot (BRD), Pune.
The event, chaired by Air Marshal Vijay Kumar Garg, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, HQ MC, brought together senior representatives from DRDO, the Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC), CSIR–National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), the Indian Army, Navy, and over 100 industry partners.
In his keynote address, Air Marshal Garg underscored the IAF’s drive towards self-reliance in avionics through indigenisation, reverse engineering, and structured life cycle management of Line Replaceable Units (LRUs). He stressed the need to reduce dependency on foreign original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) by prioritising in-house repair capabilities and indigenous development.

Highlighting the technical challenges of sustaining avionics systems without original design data, he called for advanced indigenous diagnostics, testing tools, and closer collaboration between the IAF, DRDO, CEMILAC, and private industry to develop future-ready systems.
To bolster these efforts, the IAF committed to providing full depot-level support for industry-led development initiatives. CSIR–NAL has been onboarded as a technical consultant to guide indigenous design and certification.

The seminar featured a specialised workshop by CSIR–NAL and a certification toolkit demonstration by CEMILAC, aimed at streamlining the design and development process for Indian aerospace agencies. Officials said the initiative marked a significant step towards strengthening the country’s aerospace self-reliance.
