New FASTag Pass Offers 200 Toll Crossings for Rs 3,000 — Pune–Mumbai Expressway Not Covered
Pune, 15th August 2025: The government has rolled out an annual FASTag pass for frequent travellers on National Highways, offering significant savings and convenience. Priced at ₹3,000, the pass will be valid for one year and will allow users to cross toll plazas 200 times.
Officials said the move will help reduce toll costs to about ₹15 per crossing and ease congestion at toll plazas nationwide. With this pass, commuters can avoid frequent recharges and delays while travelling on National Highways.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who had announced the scheme on 18 June, said, “It normally costs around ₹10,000 to cross so many tolls. Now the same can be done for just ₹3,000.”
Why Introduce the Annual Pass When FASTag Already Exists?
Currently, FASTag users are charged each time they cross a toll plaza. Under the new scheme, paying ₹3,000 once gives 200 crossings, reducing per-toll cost substantially for frequent highway users.
Is It Mandatory?
No. The annual pass is optional. Existing FASTag systems will continue without changes or extra charges.
Where Will It Be Valid?
The pass can be used on National Highways (NH) and National Expressways (NE) under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
Examples include:
- Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway
- Eastern Peripheral Expressway (KGP)
- Delhi–Meerut Expressway
- Vadodara–Mumbai Expressway
It will not be valid on state highways, municipal toll roads, or private expressways such as the Yamuna Expressway, Mumbai–Pune Expressway (State government), or Agra–Lucknow Expressway.
Who Can Use It?
The pass is only for private, non-commercial vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans. Commercial vehicles like trucks, buses, and taxis are not eligible. The vehicle must be registered as a “private vehicle” in the VAHAN database.
Do You Need a New FASTag?
No. The pass will be linked to your existing FASTag, provided it is active, not blacklisted, and connected to the correct Vehicle Registration Number (VRN). Passes will not be issued for FASTags linked only to chassis numbers.
Is It Transferable?
No. The pass is valid only for the specific vehicle and FASTag it is linked to. Attempting to use it on another vehicle will result in deactivation without a refund.
How Is a Toll Crossing Counted?
- At a point-based toll plaza, each crossing counts separately.
- In a closed toll system, one entry and one exit together count as a single crossing.
