Pune: Baba Bhide Bridge Reopens for Commuters Ahead of Diwali, Eases Traffic on JM Road and Peth Areas
Pune, 7th November 2026: After months of restrictions, traffic movement on the Baba Bhide bridge in Deccan Gymkhana has resumed just ahead of the Diwali shopping rush, offering relief to commuters travelling between JM Road, Deccan Gymkhana and the Peth areas.
Maha Metro has partially relaxed the restrictions after the foot overbridge (FoB) project at the site entered its final phase. The bridge will now remain open to vehicles and pedestrians on most days, with closures planned only when required to carry out specific construction activities.
A Maha Metro official said there was no longer a need to keep the bridge closed throughout the day. The remaining work is expected to be completed by December, while barricading will continue at the site for a few more days.
The reopening has eased traffic pressure on JM Road, Lakdi Pul and parts of Deccan Gymkhana and the Peth areas. However, commuters said congestion persisted across the neighbourhood during the past three days, even after the bridge was reopened.
Officials said the basic structure of the foot overbridge was ready and the launching of the girder would be undertaken in phases. Once completed, the FoB will provide direct access for commuters from Deccan Gymkhana Metro station towards Sadashiv Peth and Narayan Peth.
