New Delhi, 16th August 2025: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that linking students’ Apaar ID will be mandatory during the registration of Class IX and XI students, as well as in the List of Candidates (LOC) for Class X and XII, starting from the academic session 2025-26.

The move, taken under the directive of the Ministry of Education, aims to ensure that every student has a lifelong, digital academic record. CBSE officials stated that this integration will streamline the registration process and bring more transparency to data management and examinations.

At present, student registration and LOC data are maintained without a standardized identification system, often resulting in duplicate entries, inconsistencies, and difficulties in verification. By making Apaar ID compulsory, the board hopes to eliminate such errors.

“Schools will be required to provide the Apaar ID of each student before registration. The ID will also be recorded in multiple academic documents and used for verification-related requests,” a CBSE official said.

What is Apaar ID?
Apaar ID, short for Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry, is a 12-digit unique identification number. It enables students to digitally store, manage, and access their academic records, including mark sheets, scorecards, diplomas, and degrees.

Functioning as a permanent digital identity, the Apaar ID will track a student’s entire academic journey, making it easier to verify records across schools, universities, and institutions.

According to CBSE, all schools will be required to attach Apaar IDs with registration and LOC submissions from 2025-26, ensuring accuracy and reliability in student data.
