Pimpri-Chinchwad, 18th August 2025: Authorities have announced that 800 cusecs of water will be released from Pavana Dam from 2 PM onwards following continuous heavy rainfall in the catchment areas. The dam, which supplies drinking water to Pimpri-Chinchwad, has reached over 97% of its storage capacity and has begun overflowing.

Officials confirmed that the steady inflow of rainwater over the past week has ensured adequate storage to meet the city’s and Maval region’s drinking water needs for the coming year.

However, despite sufficient reserves, residents remain dissatisfied with the alternate-day water supply system followed by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), which has been in place for several years.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy showers across Pune district, particularly in ghat areas, raising the likelihood of further inflows into the reservoir. As a precaution, residents along riverbanks have been urged to stay alert and exercise caution during the discharge.
