Pune Rains: Leafy Vegetable Prices Double as Supply Drops Sharply
Market Yard, 20th August 2025: Continuous rainfall across Pune division and other parts of Maharashtra has severely hit the supply of leafy vegetables, causing prices to nearly double in the city’s markets.
Heavy showers have been lashing Pune, Solapur, Satara, Sangli, and Kolhapur districts for the past few days. At Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard, one of the largest wholesale markets in the region, arrivals of leafy greens have dropped sharply as harvesting remains disrupted and standing crops have been damaged after getting soaked.
“Leafy vegetables have been damaged due to rains. In the last two days, supply has dropped to half, doubling the prices. Once the rains subside, supply is expected to recover within a week,” said Rajendra Suryawanshi, a leafy vegetable trader from the Market Yard.
On Monday (August 18), the market received around 1.5 lakh bundles of coriander, but arrivals fell to 75,000 bundles on Tuesday (August 19). Similarly, fenugreek arrivals dropped from 40,000 bundles on Monday to just 10,000 bundles on Tuesday. The supply of spring onions, mint, radish, and dill has also declined significantly.
Current retail prices of leafy vegetables (per bundle):
Coriander: ₹25 – ₹30
Fenugreek: ₹25 – ₹30
Dill: ₹20 – ₹25
Spring onion: ₹20 – ₹25
Spinach: ₹15 – ₹20
Mint: ₹10 – ₹15
Radish: ₹25 – ₹30
Rise in Lemon Prices
Alongside leafy vegetables, lemon prices have also gone up as harvesting has been disrupted by rains. The supply of lemons from Solapur and Ahilyanagar districts has reduced, pushing up prices by about ₹100 per sack (18–20 kg).
