Aundh, 23rd August 2025: A 44-year-old joint director with a central government research and development organisation was assaulted by an autorickshaw driver in Aundh on the night of August 17, leaving him with a head injury and a fracture in his right wrist.

According to Chatushrungi police, the incident occurred around 9.30 pm at Bhale Chowk. The official was driving home when the signal turned green, but an autorickshaw ahead of him did not move. After he honked, the driver of the rickshaw allegedly blocked his path.

“When the victim honked again, the autorickshaw driver stepped out, hurled abuses at him, and then picked up a cement brick from his vehicle. He struck the officer on the head and, while attempting to hit him again, injured his wrist as the victim tried to shield himself,” said a police officer from Chatushrungi police station.

Passersby intervened and caught hold of the driver, while someone alerted the police. Both men were taken to the police station, and the injured officer was rushed to Sassoon General Hospital. He was later shifted to a private hospital for further treatment.

On Thursday, after being discharged, the senior officer lodged a formal complaint. The autorickshaw driver, a 21-year-old resident of Kothrud, has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including wrongful restraint, voluntarily causing grievous hurt, and criminal intimidation.

“We have issued a notice to the accused to join the investigation whenever required,” the officer added.
